May 2, 2022, Ken McKenzie assumed ownership of Armstrong Family Malloy-Mitten Mortuary, which has stood as a pillar of funeral care in Los Angeles, California, for over a century. With the addition of this historic location, our capacity to serve the community has been significantly bolstered, now spanning two establishments: our original home in Long Beach and this newly acquired site, both dedicated to assisting families during their times of need.

Established by Burton Howard Armstrong in 1903, Armstrong Mortuary has remained a steadfast presence in the community, guided by successive generations of the Armstrong family. Managed for many years by Burton's great-grandson, Bob Armstrong, a fourth-generation funeral director, the Mortuary has witnessed the evolution of its surroundings and the shifting landscape of the funeral industry. Bob fondly recalls the heyday of downtown Los Angeles, where Armstrong Mortuary was among numerous establishments serving the community's needs. However, as times changed, the Mortuary adapted, recognizing the importance of accommodating the diverse cultural backgrounds of its clientele.

Throughout its storied history, Armstrong Mortuary has earned a reputation for its unwavering professionalism and compassionate service, qualities exemplified during historic moments such as the preparation of Senator Robert Kennedy's body following his tragic assassination in 1968. Despite the somber nature of such occasions, Bob remained steadfast in upholding the legacy of excellence established by his great-grandfather, attributing the Mortuary's enduring success to a sense of calling—a commitment to serving others in their time of greatest need.

As Armstrong Mortuary enters a new chapter under Ken McKenzie's stewardship, the legacy of compassion, integrity, and service instilled by generations past continues to guide our mission. We remain dedicated to providing solace, support, and dignified care to the diverse families we have the privilege to serve, embodying the timeless values that have defined Armstrong Mortuary for over a century.

Troy Garcia brings a unique blend of compassion and expertise to his role as the newest addition to the Mortuary team. His journey into the funeral industry began unexpectedly, shaped by personal experiences that instilled in him a profound sense of caring for others from a young age. Losing his father during childhood, Troy shouldered the responsibility of caring for his ailing mother throughout high school, laying the groundwork for his eventual entry into this field.

Following his formative years, Troy pursued a path in cosmetology, dedicating himself to uplifting others and instilling confidence through his work. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Ken McKenzie, seizing the opportunity to utilize his cosmetology talents to honor departed loved ones. Reflecting on his transition into funeral care, Troy emphasizes the deeply rewarding nature of his work, finding fulfillment in the gratitude of families as they bid farewell to their loved ones.

As a part-owner of the Mortuary, Troy envisions continual growth and evolution, driven by a steadfast commitment to serving the community with compassion and professionalism. The legacy of Armstrong, Garcia & McKenzie Mortuary, situated on Venice Boulevard in close proximity to Interstate-110, remains a beacon of comfort and support for Southern California and Metro Los Angeles communities.

Housed within a meticulously restored landmark building, the Mortuary embraces its historical reputation while offering modern amenities to ensure families feel at ease during their time of mourning. From the inviting chapel accommodating up to 75 guests to the spacious family meeting room designed for tranquility and reflection, every detail is thoughtfully crafted to honor both tradition and the evolving needs of those we serve.
